Machine Operator

Job Summary

A Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and tending metal fabrication equipment used in laser cutting, bending, CNC machining, welding support, and general shop production. This role is essential to producing high-quality metal parts while meeting production schedules and maintaining safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Read and interpret drawings, work orders, production schedules, and basic instructions.
Set up, operate, and adjust metal fabrication equipment, including:
- Laser cutting equipment
- Press brakes / bending equipment
- CNC machines
Load raw metal materials (sheet, plate, or components) into machines safely and efficiently
Position, align, and secure workpieces using fixtures, stops, and clamps.
Start machines, monitor operations, and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
Measure finished parts using calipers, gauges, templates, and rulers
Inspect completed parts for defects and report or sort non-conforming materials
Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventative maintenance
Accurately record production data including quantities, scrap, and downtime
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Follow all company safety and quality policies
Assist with additional shop duties as needed

Qualifications

Experience

Minimum 1 year of experience as a Machine Operator in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment

Skills & Abilities

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Active listening and communication skills
Reading comprehension (prints, work orders, instructions)
Critical thinking and problem solving

Preferred (Not Required)

Experience with laser cutting, press brake bending, or MIG/TIG welding
CNC machine operation experience
Basic CAD skills
Forklift experience

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to lift 50+ pounds and operate hand tools
Work performed in a metal fabrication shop with machinery and moving materials
